#An Amis Electro Alchemist of Tribal Sounds

Hailing from the Amis tribe of Cikasuan, Hualien, Dungi masterfully blends traditional Indigenous chants with electronic genres such as EDM, Afro, House, and Techno. Through futuristic electronic soundscapes, she bridges the gap between ancestral traditions and contemporary culture, crafting a distinct and recognizable sonic identity.

Dungi represented Taiwan at the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad and has been invited to perform across New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Canada, Japan, London, and Southeast Asia. She has shared the stage with renowned German Techno DJ Monoloc and collaborated with Australian band Tjaka on her debut album. Her performances are bold and self-expressive, continuously shaping a sound universe uniquely her own.

REviews

“ Electronic music creations broaden the public’s imagination and possibilities for Taiwanese Indigenous music. Through layered integration of production techniques, styles, and lyrical content, the work expands boundaries and builds connections with Austronesian cultures. It also inspires anticipation for the emergence of a 'Future Austronesianism,' akin to Afrofuturism.”

Debut Album “DUNGI SAPOR” is a personal journey that blends the futuristic vibe of electronic music with Dungi’s own life experiences and cultural roots. By reinterpreting ancient melodies passed down through generations, the album boldly bridges the past and present.

In addition to featuring Indigenous Taiwanese vocalists, the album includes two collaborative tracks — “Where I’m From” and “Firewood” — co-produced with Australian band Tjaka. The group brings their signature hip-hop elements and the unique sound of the Didjeribone, a modern adaptation of the traditional Aboriginal didgeridoo, adding rich textures and global flair to the album’s sound.
