Break the Record! 2024 WMFT Receives Highest Number of Applicants from Taiwan and Worldwide

Just Four Months Until the Grandest Showcase Edition Arrives!

Hope all is well with you! Exciting news ahead! The recent Showcase application of 2024 World Music Festival @Taiwan closure on May 25th marked a milestone with a record-breaking 169 group applications, surpassing all previous editions. The lineup boasts 15 heavyweight delegates, comprising both local Taiwanese talents and international artists.
To ensure fairness in selection, this year we introduced two distinct categories: New Talent and Jury Selection. New Talent welcomes groups who have debuted within the past 5 years, embodying a fresh wave of potential and untapped talent waiting to be discovered. Meanwhile, the Jury Selection process is designed to accommodate artists with over five years of industry experience, as well as emerging dark horse newcomers who have gained international recognition through awards or performances at prestigious showcase festivals within five years of their debut.
Surpassing our expectations, we received applications from 101 groups for New Talent and 68 groups for Jury Selection. These submissions hail from a diverse range of 35 countries. While 76 groups originate from Taiwan, the remaining 93 groups represent 34 countries worldwide. Among these, Southeast Asia boasts 33 groups, followed by 19 from Northeast Asia, 14 from East Asia, 14 from Europe, and 8 from the Americas, with additional entries from Africa, the Middle East, and Oceania.
Interestingly, Malaysia leads with the highest number of applicant groups, followed by Thailand in second place, and China in third. This trend signifies a growing awareness of the festival among neighboring countries, fostering closer connections and opportunities for exploring shared cultural roots together.
The WMFT team extends our gratitude to all the applicants. Each applicant has demonstrated high engagement, and we're excited to announce the final 16 groups, with 9 from Taiwan and 7 from abroad! Stay tuned for the announcement on Wednesday, June 19th.
✱ Selected groups will be notified via the email provided during application and the contact information given, and they MUST confirm their acceptance by the deadline of 18:00 on Monday, June 24th (GMT+8).
